Crossbedding of sandstone layers on the
north side of Padre Bay indicates the
deposition of ancient sand dunes. Time
continues to eat away at Cookie Jar Butte,
filling the blue waters of Lake Powell (in
Kane County, Utah) with sand.

Photo courtesy of Gary Ladd, taken several
years past when periods of drought greatly
effected the lake's water level.

In 2008, the lake is currently rising at
12 (vertical inches) per day, and is expected
to peak at 63% of capacity by August.

Is there still sand left in your hourglass???
