| Approaching Capitol | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
5/28/05: Upon the approach of Capitol Peak on a fine spring day. Just ahead lies the crux of our approach: a large headwall of snow. Despite several signs of recent avalanche activity in the area, this snow was solid and good for kick-stepping.

Hasn't voted | Nope--We made it to about 13,000 feet. We turned around at 8:30 AM because the sun-baked snow was already so soft we were sinking deeply, and we still had a lot of steep, somewhat avalanche-prone snow to contend with before K2. One huge cornice partially broke loose, above bc44caesar and photo61guy, and fortunately missed them. We had some fun (and painful) glissades on the way out, and as we got back to our cars, storms were moving in, so it was pretty good timing in getting away. Awesome place though! | | Posted May 30, 2005 1:04 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Good try anyway. 13,000 is an accomplishment in those conditions. | | Posted May 30, 2005 3:49 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks. It was a lot of fun and some awesome scenery. There were six of us: photo61guy, km_donovan, Scott Patterson, PellucidWombat, bc44caesar, and myself. I will definitely be going back some time, hopefully this summer. | | Posted May 30, 2005 6:07 pm |

Voted 10/10 | and it was fun. The Nepalese Restaurant was good too. I definitely want to go back, Capitol has got to be the most majestic mountain I have seen. | | Posted May 31, 2005 9:05 am |
