Emmons Glacier, Mt Rainier:... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Emmons Glacier, Mt Rainier:...
Emmons Glacier, Mt Rainier: Walking from Camp Schurman to our camp at Emmons Flat, I took a 25ft crevasse fall into a hidden crevasse! The crevasse was completely hidden and no characteristic slumping of snow was visible anywhere nearby. Use extreme caution and always have your crevasse rescue skills dialed, even if climbing on multiperson rope teams. Spend an afternoon and go thru the entire rescue procedure before climbing or camping on any glacier, especially on Mt Rainier. The walk between Schurman and Emmons Flat is often well wanded and others can be seen walking around unroped between the 2 camps. Do not assume it is safe anywhere on the glacier. 16 July 2005 Photo Credit: D Valdes / Leica CM / Fuji Reala 100

Hope you did not have any serious injuries, it can be really dangerous. I made once mistake and stepped just one foot from the tracks and fall into hidden crevasse.

I've been where you took the fall. The Prow creates a hump where the Emmons and Winthrop split. Lots of little parallel crevasses open up there. You gotta watch yourself.

"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."   --Peter Gibbons (Office Space)
