You're in his world now…
This showoff joined up with us as we neared the top of the south ridge. He was kind enough to let me take his picture. August 2005

Voted 10/10 | It's HIS mountain, and he knows it... are they timid generally? He looks kind of sturdy | | Posted Mar 29, 2006 10:52 pm |

Hasn't voted | Yes, they are supposed to be rather timid. Unfortunately the mountains goats in this area aren’t anymore. Down where people camp, the goats come roaming through looking for stuff to eat. They especially look for salt sources, namely any place where you urinate. They will stand around, waiting and watching for you to pee, then they will go and lick it up. That’s what these goats were doing. I counted 19 goats in and around our campsite one morning. | | Posted Mar 30, 2006 5:29 am |

Hasn't voted | Sometimes they can be downright aggressive. People have been nearly chased off Mt. Ellinor. One time I was trying to get close to a kid for a photo and the nanny brandished her horns as a gesture of displeasure. Needless to say, I backed off.
BTW, the only reason I couldn't get any closer in my profile photo is because I couldn't focus my camera if I was any closer. | | Posted Aug 25, 2006 8:20 pm |

Voted 10/10 | light in this photo, the goat looks almost translucent. I guess these goats are for the U.S. mountains what the the chamois is in the Alps (they are not goats but antelopes). | | Posted Jan 13, 2008 11:56 am |
