The Hike Back [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The Hike Back
Shirley hiking back to the car along the park road following our climb of the West Face route on Three Gossips. In the background are the massive Organ Towers (October 14, 2005).

PS I said "massive organ"...

although the park road is a bit distracting, it leads the eye to the main attraction. great pic. i also like your pics of the 3 gossips. what kind of camera did you use?

Thank you very much!

Nothing special in terms of camera - think it's Cannon Powershot (?) 4.0 Megapixel?

Yes, mostly Entrada sandstone, I believe.

Charles,

thank you for your kind remarks!

Yeah, the stuff all around that area is sandstone. I'm no geologist but the term "Entrada Sandstone" is thrown around quite a bit to describe the stuff in Arches NP.

William,

thank you very much!

I actually really do think that it might NOT be the best choice given the road in the foreground!!

Arches IS a wonderful place. Worth a visit for whatever - a climb, a hike, or even a drive thru. Amazing area!

I was just kidding about the road. It works well in this image. As someone else has mentioned leading you to the point of interest. It is a deserving image. Cheers William

Great photo Radek, worth the PotW honors! As William said, this is not a typical road shot. Colors are great here, scenery fantastic, road is nice with those black curves and nice model whose shadow and big shadow in lower right corner give that extra touch!

Cheers,

Aleksandar - Sasha

Are you sure it doesn't have anything to do with your wife being in it??? :P

Just kidding! Great shot of a 'massive organ'. Congratulations!

Maybe the top honor is about the attractive wife in the foreground, not the ugly (by comparison) towers in the background. Dya'ever thinka that, bub? Just think if you had been in the picture too. What critique would the picture have received then?

Had I been in the photo, nobody would complain about the uglyass road in the foreground ;)
