Bear Creek Lake with an unnamed peak in the background

Hasn't voted | This peak is unnamed? What area is it in? It's in the Octoberfest peak section, so I'm assuming the same general area? That looks like an interesting mountain. Any idea on the elevation at the summit? | | Posted Jan 24, 2006 9:25 pm |

Hasn't voted | Yes, like many peaks in Idaho, this one is unnamed. It's in the southeastern part of the Lost River Range. It can be accessed from Pass Creek Road. Octoberfest Peak, this mountain, and several others are in the same area forming an amphitheater around Bear Creek Lake.
In my book, The Hikers Guide to Idaho, it says that the twisted rock on this peak flow upward toward the sky like "taffy from a giant's kitchen," and are similar in appearance to the Italian Dolomites. My guess is that the elevation is between 10,500 - 11,000 feet high. There are taller mountains surrounding it but this one stands out the most. | | Posted Jan 31, 2006 2:24 pm |

Voted 10/10 | This amazing rock feature sits just above the 10,000' makr south of Octoberfest. It has never been climbed and would be very difficult due to the nature of the rock in the area. However, with prominence less than 200', many wouldn't consider it a goal. However, it certainly seems worthy of attempting to summit prominence or not.

Hasn't voted | Very interesting information. At some point I would like to spend more time in the Idaho mountains, hopefully this summer when I'm not in school. This looks like an interesting place to spend a few days. Much more remote than the Central Wasatch.
You're certain it has never been climbed? I guess there is no way to know that, but there are no documented ascents? Huh. Cool. | | Posted Feb 4, 2006 12:20 am |

Voted 10/10 | Gazelle Peak, Nice to see some new pictures from you. I hope to climb Lone Peak with my son this summer went to Canada with him this winter and climbed for 10 days on ice .Climbed The Weeping Wall with him. It is like two football fields of ice. The climb is near the Columbia Icefields between Baff and Jasper a spectacular place. | | Posted Apr 19, 2008 10:15 am |

Hasn't voted | This is a really neat mountain but it doesn’t have an official name which is quite common here. Perhaps the best name for it would be Bear Creek Peak. Someone told me that it has never been climbed but I highly doubt that. I’m sure that it isn’t climbed very often though. Great job on Weeping Wall and have fun on Lone Peak with your son. | | Posted Apr 19, 2008 10:09 pm |

Hasn't voted | I recognized this view immediately from the thumbnail! It is a very cool spot indeed. I have a photo identical to this one except the aspen at the end of the lake is yellow. I visited this lake during a ~50 mile 4 day traverse of the mountains. | | Posted May 28, 2008 1:31 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks! That must have been a fun traverse. The “Backpacking Idaho” book describes a route that goes through the Lost River Range. I would like to do that someday too. | | Posted May 28, 2008 3:37 am |
