Hasn't voted | When the Diamond Couloir was first climbed there was a distinctive long tongue of vertical ice that connected the base of the couloir to the lower-angled upper sections. This vertical section of ice has apparently not formed again, and the steep rock is now climbed by means of some modern mixed trickery.
There general trend is still warming and melting of the glaciers, but - as can be seen from the photos - substantial ice does still form after a sufficiently wet winter season.
cheers,
Ben
