September 25th, 2005 - The last and steepest pitch of the Harrington Couloir. We thought it was going to be a soft snow or neve pitch, but suddenly Michael Ybarra (MichaelJ) kicked loose a sluff, exposing this hard and brittle sheet of alpine ice. Suddenly the climbing got a lot more interesting . . . :-D

It was mostly a fairly uniform neve, and for a while all the ice I could see was the water drippings, but when the sluff carved out the snow on top, I could see that it looked like the surface beneath the fresh snow may have had a lot more ice, albeit more rouch and plastic than the final headwall! | | Posted Dec 25, 2005 1:44 pm |
