Roping up for the long... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
 Roping up for the long...

Roping up for the long traverse of the Le Conte Glacier on Stage 3 of the Ptarmigan Traverse. We've dropped off the E side of the crest and will traverse under the ridge until we can pass through the gap between this ridge and Sentinel/Old Guard, at 7300 feet.

The peaks on the ridge are Points 7400 (closest) and 7621. Sentinel is hidden behind Point 7621, but Old Guard Peak is visible over the glacier.

Nice shot... the snow level seems high, what time of year was this?

Mid-August, 1991. Shortly before this picture, we swam in Yang-Yang Lakes; shortly after it, we were navigating the glaciers by compass in a white-out.
