You can still see my...
You can still see my tracks... This is the final portion of the route onto the West Crater summit ridge. From here I was blocked from moving on to the true summit by a narrow ridge of loose rock and snow but I speculate that better snow conditions and a bit of pro and it would make it possible.

what inspired you to climb hood via West Crater this time of year? Would have thought the route was out of season till there was much more snow.

I had alread done the Hogsback twice before and felt that it wouldn't be much harder to go over the old route (West Crater). Plus the Bergschrund on the normal route was huge and I didn't want to play around near it as I was alone and had no way of belaying myself. As far as the route was concerned, it was great for climbing... you just couldn't traverse at the top and there was more rock coming off than I expected for the Winter season, but then again, it was unusually warm that day and the sky was crystal clear... Bottom line, I was "just curious" as well.
