My solitary summit camp at... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
My solitary summit camp at...
My solitary summit camp at sunset, July 2002. I'd climbed up via Frostbite Ridge in a long day that smelled like rain. There was lightning in the night. I sat up and was amazed by the lights of the Puget Sound metropolis.

Thanks Dave! Haha, yeah. Well, it was further away, I think it was over the Mt. Maude area to the east. I did worry about it coming closer :-). Playing through all these scenarios, including (ugh) packing up and trying to escape in the dark.

Thank you Tomek! Being alone in a high place, deep in the backcountry is special. Rare for me, and therefore even more precious.

Yep I was alone, though it was only for the weekend. I climbed up the Frostbite Ridge, then ate and slept on the summit. The next day I descended the normal route, and then out to the parking lot where I hitched a ride to Darrington. Really fun wilderness journey, 5 years later it's still a really memorable trip. Thanks for asking, if you go to Washington, it's a must do!
