Monument Peak as seen from... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Monument Peak as seen from...
Monument Peak as seen from Lost Peak to the east on August 20, 2001. At upper left is the SSE Ridge and escarpment. Plunging down at center left is the East Ridge and escarpment. At upper right is the long ridge leading to Blackcap Mountain. An "easy" (easy meaning class 4+) way up the east escarpment can be found just left of the moraine and ice fragment. The East Ridge was used by the first ascent of Monument in September 1978 by Fred Beckey and John Roper (a relatively late in the century first ascent for such a prominent peak). The East Ridge is class 4 with a few class 5 moves.
