Climbers make their way back across the Knife Edge on their descent from Capitol Peak. No, none of us were roped. Everybody but me “tight-roped” the ridge. Bad idea, you can see that if you fall, you are going to fall a long way before something stops you.

Gotta take a jab at you for being the only one to crawl across... :) just kidding... obviously a fall down either side of the ridge would make a great trip turn horrific in a hurry. Hasn't voted | It depends on who you talk to as to what Capitol’s crux is. Many consider the Knife Edge, which is the route’s most exposed section, to be the crux. However many will tell you that the climb over K2 (that high point in the background) is the hardest part. I’ve found that the traverse across the face to the summit has been the part that has given me the most willies. It has never looked good to me from a distance. Once I’m on it, it isn’t that bad. However, on the face you do have to worry about the generally loose rock, and about finding your route (as a general rule, I’ve found that staying higher on the face is better going). The Knife Edge while exposed, is nice solid rock. K2 is pretty solid too. Traversing around K2 is loose, and dangerous, but you don’t need to go that way. | | Posted May 4, 2006 3:35 am |

I can't stop staring at this picture. There is something so otherworldly and timeless about it. Like its the very edge of the world and you're climbing to take a look over it and into the "great abyss!!" (I think the fog kind of creates that effect)
