Although the effort was zero - I saw the clouds finally clear from my apartment window, suddenly, and near sunset, after three days of constant snowfall, and decided to play tourist and run around town with my camera.

I shot that right outside of Mojo's sandwich shop in the Chamonix town square. Easy pickings! (And good sandwiches!)

I guess the one 'being on right place at right time' describes it well :-) But we know sometimes that is not enough if you don't know how to capture it properly so 0 for the effort but still 10 stars for the shot! Not bad at all! :-)

I compared just now to the original again and no, nothing too drastic: moderate Levels to push the contrast (in retrospect a little overapplied), and linear color correction to pull out the orange and darken the sky slightly.

It's always a fine balance deciding how much to touch things up in Photoshop... I figure all the pros do at least color and exposure correction, so that's what I generally stick with. The contrast range on my camera isn't too great so I almost always bump that up, and the color detection as well seems to always lead to too much cyan, so I usually push in more orange/red to compensate...

Enough geekiness. Thanks for all your 10 votes. I would have voted it a 9 but hey, no complaints here!
