heh, I was wondering if anyone saw it. This was that morning. The weather was perfect for three days. Everything was perfect!

We found out about it 3rd-4th hand from a ranger (who got the news through his 2-way radio) that stopped the park bus we hitched a ride from to get to a hike. The details are lacking (to say the least) 80 miles from any type of communication or electricity. We where told 30,000 people could be dead and many more planes hijacked.

That was all the info we had till later that night. At camp there was maybe 10 other folks. A group of four had a tiny battery operated am radio. The entired camp of strangers from different parts of the world huddled around it listening to the scartchy broke up reports and discussing what was happening.

It was quite sad to hear such horrible news in such a beautiful place! Quite surreal!

We spent another 2 days camping and hiking out there. When we got back to civilisation and saw the images and video it was a shock to the system. I rather liked not knowing all the details while out in the wilderness.

The only good thing (if you can say that) was we had to add on another 4 days to our Alaska trip due to the mess at the airports. Many people had no money left to add days to there vacations so they stayed in the airports for days. We rented a car, hit the road, and made the best of it.
A trip we will never forget for MANY reasons!

Thanks everyone for the votes and comments! It is a hard mountain to photograph well. It is so damn big! =)

I kinda agree with your point on not knowing what's going on. There's not many places in the world anymore where you can be uninfluenced by whatever else is going on in it. That said I might move to Greenland.
