Lunch on the Precipice [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Lunch on the Precipice

A golden-mantled ground squirrel lunches on the ledge of the precipice at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, CO. It may not be obvious, but that drop to the Gunnison River in the distance approaches 2,000 feet! Imaged in August 2006.

Mark,

This "chipmunk" is in fact a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel. In case you're interested.

Great picture, by the way.

Well. dog-gone-it--that blows my title, doesn't it? Okay, I'll fix it, but give me some time to think of another appropriate title. :-)

P.S.--Thanks, Mike, for pointing it out--I truly want the info to be accurate.

Mark, I made the same mistake with my "chipmunk" as seen in this picture. Read the comments. Great shot and title BTW.

That video is a gem, I was happy to find it. It cracks me up every time I watch it thanks to the Mission Impossible music in the background.

I really like the depth of the canyon behind this critter. How low were you standing/sitting/crawling for the shot?

I was standing normally, but used a telephoto to bring the little guy closer. Thanks for looking, Arthur! --mark d.
