rpcCool series of photos!!

Martin,

Great series of photos on this one. Been thinking of trying this route.....but since this is I think outside the NCNP, we'd prefer to bring the dog with us (avoid boarding $$) and tie her off at the base. Question is how difficult would it be once you descend the S. Ridge walk off route to return to the base of the NE ridge ---- are we talking major elevation loss/gain? Thanks!

Hey Radek,

You would tie the dog off at the high lake, not at the base of the northeast ridge. The start of the two routes are on opposite sides of the mountain. If you simulclimb, you should be able to do lake-to-lake in 5 to 6 hours, so the dog won't be alone too long.

RPC, my friends Eric and Sergio just did the NE Ridge on Saturday (see here). In particular, the third picture on his trip report for this climb shows the elevation loss-gain to get from the South Route Col (on the left) to the NE Ridge (on the right). Seems like the better thing to do would be to leave the pooch at Wing Lake (some trees for shade and/or comfort). The final talus slog up to the NE Ridge would not be lost on a dog.

Thanks Martin - appreciate the info.....now only if the weather would cooperate for another weekend.

Paul,

thanks for the info. I saw the trip report on Eric's page - been checking that on a weekly basis for climb ideas (cool page). We might end up doing that - just leaving her in camp by Wing Lake.

Radek, I don't know if you did the NE Ridge of Black last month or not (I don't see that you have signed the sp.com register for the peak). In case you haven't, you might find Sergio's page for Black's NE Ridge worth knowing about for future reference.

Paul,

Thanks for the link. I've visited Sergio's page multiple times - quality stuff and a useful reference. No, haven't gotten around to Black Peak this season - were hoping to do it the weekend after our NEWS climb but the weather went to crap at that point. Be back next season though (along with another climb that we wanted to do...the SW Buttress on Cuthroat that I know you guys did).

Just checked out the Triumph and Black Peak pages at sverdina.com. Man, Triumph looks fun. Speaking of Black Peak's NE ridge, I was eyeing doing the complete NE ridge next year. Do you know anyone who has tried that Paul? It basically starts from ENE or Wing Lake and goes all the way up. Looks to be about 1,800 feet of vertical instead of the usual 800.

I have heard about there being a complete NE Ridge route on Black (kind of like the entire Exum on G. Teton) but I don't personally know anyone who has done it or know of a trip report concerning it. Sorry. Hey, you can go and explore w/o any first-hand knowledge.

Speaking of routes, check out my new NE Buttress Route on the Mt. Goode page. Now that's a fun route for you.
