Almost Done
Andy exits the crux of the Dragon's Tooth Couloir on Flattop Mountain. The crux is a rock band about three-quarters up the couloir. The easiest passage is made awkward by the remains of a dead elk. Some people take to the face to climber's right. We overcame a steep snow step to the left. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, April 2007.

Thanks, Jeff. It was a great climb and we probably had the best weather to be had in the Front Range yesterday.

this route, is it the same way you came up? Nice shots Brenta, as always. Glad you guys had fun. I'll be on the next couloir adventure...

nobody commented on this howler: "The easiest passage is made awkward by the remains of a dead elk."

Is that like...completely mundane?! We need a trip report :-)

Well, the route page already mentions that, and I didn't want to belabor the macabre. There are large herds of elks in Rocky Mountain National Park. It appears that several years ago one fell into the couloir from the plateau at the top.

I just noticed that Andy has posted a trip report on our climb of the Dragon's Tooth Couloir. If you check 4:20 into the movie, there is a very short cut on the dead elk as seen from below the crux.

Ah, right on. This will satisfy my tabloid interest in the macabre :p

I know his helmet is an Edelrid Ultralight, and the backpack he was carrying is an Osprey, but for the rest you'll have to ask Andy himself.
