Scourge of Humanity
A sea of cars that carried hundreds of people for a stroll up Mount Bierstadt. A terrible injustice to the mountain? Surprised? You shouldn't be. This is 14er climbing in Colorado on weekends. If you like lots of company, you'll be right at home! Click on the "Scourge of Humanity" link for the ugly details. Photo by Aaron Johnson

Hasn't voted | Captures it all: the beauty of the mountains, and how it can be loved to death. Good editorial work, Aaron. | | Posted Sep 19, 2003 6:09 pm |

Voted 10/10 | I kind of feel that these people at least are getting out and doing something, not hanging around the house watching the tube. I just hope they carry "blue" bags and leave their dogs at home. Oh well.... | | Posted Sep 26, 2003 4:52 pm |

Hasn't voted | I agree with you Dean, but the sad thing is they DO NOT carry blue bags and the like, and the dogs run wild and bark at other hikers. The place is trashed. Bierstadt deserves better, but it is the mountain, along with some others, apparently consigned to this fate of servitude and abuse. Pretty sad. | | Posted Sep 26, 2003 4:56 pm |

Hasn't voted | Reminds me of a 'conga line' photo I saw of Mont Blanc once. And of the utterly despicable act of increasing the trail quotas at Whitney.
Intersting photo, though. I hope it stays, if only for educational purposes. | | Posted Oct 8, 2003 5:46 pm |

Hasn't voted | That's Disgusting. Makes me glad I work on the weekends! If I saw that at the trailhead, I'd turn around. | | Posted Oct 28, 2007 12:19 pm |
