This lovely lady Rufous Hummingbird
let me get my camera very lose to her and take this macro shot.
Photographed on top of Big Falls in the Spring Mountains, Nevada.
July 2007.
Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world and are recognized as the second largest family (Trochilidae) in the New World. They are found only in the New World (North, Central and South America), from the steamy tropics, to mountains, to desert areas.
They have the ablility to hoover and fly backwards, which is impressive to watch.

Hasn't voted | Thank you. This photo took a lot of patience. After unsuccessful attempts of getting close to other hummingbirds, I finally found one that didn't mind me sitting next to "her" branch. | | Posted Jul 15, 2007 3:27 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my lovely friend :) What's really funny is that she tolerated my presence next to her, but each time another hummingbird showed up nearby she would chase them away. I felt honored.
