Inside the Ice Canyon [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Inside the Ice Canyon
I found this cold canyon while backcountry touring in Glacier National Park in November, this past year. I spent about an hour inside the canyon getting pretty wet and cold taking the shot I wanted while water dripped from above and high winds swirled through. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the photograph. Thanks for looking.

This is the ol' "double falls" up by Logan that Galen Rowell made famous with photographs. I'm looking from the inside out!

sweet shot. Is that a time lapse (how long)?

Yes, Pat. This exposure necessitated leaving the shutter open for 4 seconds on a tripod. Note the motion blur evident in the water and to a lesser extent the clouds racing by above.

Terrific work Mark,

Questions:
1.) How do you sell your work, yourself, a gallery, an agency?
2.) Since you appear to be on the road extensively, how are you dealing with the business aspects.

I certainly agree with what you said on you websibe in reference to what's going with the natural environment. Over the course of my life, I've become pained and angry by what I see going on. It's going to take a concerted effort by all of us. The assault is on. Are you currently affiliated with any organizations, working as an avocat for protecting this amazing natural world of ours?

Thanks again Mark ... Your work expresses a deep connection with nature.

Not easy questions to answer without spending a lot of time here, Scott. I do sell in galleries, I do some magazine and assignment work, I have several calendar publications, am a book contributor, sell stock, license lots of images commercially for a large variety of uses such as posters, cards, etc. There's a lot to it. A creative marketing approach I call it - a little of this, little of that.

I'm away a lot but I have help back in the office and technology helps me keep in touch when I'm needed - most of the time, assuming I'm not a week into the Canadian wilderness or something. But I manage.

Hi Marc, nice shots, I was wondering if any of your shots are HDR or all just long exposure shots?

Marc AdamusRe: HDR?

Hi Dean, good question! I genuinely dislike the look and feel of HDR and do not use it. A rare few people really do get it right though - I'm just not one of them. Occasionally, and only when absolutely necessary (this image being a good example) I will use a blend of two exposures taken almost simutaneously, or two exposures from the Same RAW file, to record the scene as I saw it accurately. I also used a couple grad filters here but couldn't quite manage the exposure here so the sky comes from a less exposed shot taken a second later.
