Painted Lady moth
If memory serves me correctly, I saw this moth listed as a "North American Painted Lady" in a insect book, but I have yet to double check.

p.s. I got approximately 40 mosquito bites while photographing this moth... no exaggeration! They don't call the mosquito the "state bird of the U.P." for nothing!

It's a painted lady - which is a butterfly (not a moth).
