A true toehold! This is Moni's dad climbing in the Elbsandstein some time in the mid 1930's. Note the massive rope and how they used to tie in. No such thing as a sit-harness. The really hard stuff was often climbed barefoot.
Photographer unknown.

Hasn't voted | Thanks Vern - it is neat. It was among some of my father's effects - I have abunch more but just picked a few of the better ones to undercore the depth of history and importance of this area to climbing. Several very prominent and many very fine mountaineers have their roots here. | | Posted Sep 19, 2005 11:57 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks - so do I. I just found a bunch more in my mother's effects and I will have to spend some time sorting through them and figuring out where and when they were taken. | | Posted Oct 2, 2005 6:27 pm |
