Englestead Gulch is a technical slot canyon. This rappel is just about 300 feet. It is located on the East Rim of Zion.

Hasn't voted | It is! We did it with a single rope and as one rappel, however you could do it as 3. It's 80 feet to the first anchor then 16 feet to the next, then the 3rd is to the canyon floor. I was a little tense for some reason (like the length!) and my arm got really tired ... because of that!

Voted 10/10 | Well...this particular day we left the 300' rope suspended and went back later to retrieve it. It's possible to do several rappels to the ground, but time consuming. If a person had 2 300' ropes or a 300' rope and 300' cord it would be possible to pull the rope down. With 2 ropes it would make sense to rappel on both ropes (doubled rope rappel) or with one rope and a 300' cord it would be set up using a carabiner block on a screwlink, and then rappel only on the blocked rope, then pull the rope down using the cord. | | Posted Feb 8, 2008 8:17 pm |

Hasn't voted | Bo is what would be considered an expert with ropes and canyoneering. He is great at setting them up and pulling them so they don't get stuck. So far, if I remember right, there was one moment of cussing the rope but then it pulled through and no stuck ropes. People do get their ropes stuck however and this is a danger when canyoneering. Bo always brings a backup rope, but that can get heavy to carry. This is a great point you brought up. | | Posted Feb 9, 2008 11:40 am |
