Every few minutes, Mt. St. Helens sends up a plume of noxious smoke, a reminder that this is no dormant volcano. It can come out of the main crater or one of the side craters, including a small spire that appears to be the new (as of 1980) peak.

activity happening inside the crater.
That's why the area is "off-limits" to

Hasn't voted | I was thinking of climbing it next summer. Does that sound like something I could do? (I can climb up to a 5-9 in the gym and I have all of the gear, but I want to start on mountains.)

Have you climbed Mount Si, yet? Do you like
climbing on snow or rocks? How about the PCT?
Have you seen Red Mountain or Mt. Thompson?

thoughts to determine which mountain to climb.
Look at several pictures of the mountain, from
all directions and seasons. Love the mountain,
and it will love you. Never ... say never!
Before completing my successful climb of
Rainier in 1984, I was very unsure about
my skills. But, the people in my life gave
me the inspiration I needed, to move foward
and continue with my dream.
If a dream meant anything to me, would it
seem a bold reality?
If I knew my hand of fate, would I do or

Voted 10/10 | Yeah, you can climb it. It's pretty much just a hike on a trail so it's all class 1 except maybe the half hour or so that it takes to go from the end of the trail to the highest point on the rim (class 2).
