Looking back at the first...
Looking back at the first basin one comes upon on the Sloan Peak Trail at ~4,700 ft. This basin is where the designated trail ends. Good camping here. Up above, the three-knuckled tower is Sloan Peak. The Sloan Glacier is beyond the ridge crest on the left horizon. In continuing from here, you basically want to bear upslope to reach the crest to the right (west) of Pt. 5852, which is visible at upper left. Click here for the opposite view. July 14, 1995.
