Picture Peak is not the most impressive peak I have seen. Far from it. It is also not the most dominant mountain in the area. Evolution peaks Darwin and Haeckel stand taller and are more well known, while Picture Peak is not even marked on the map. So what is the secret of its popularity among photographers? I found the answer to this question here at Hungry Packer Lake when I could not stop staring at this photogenic peak, could not stop taking one shot after another. What makes it so special is the sense of harmony this view inspires, the feeling that is very rare anywhere in this world. It is rare in the mountains too, although a bit more common here than in other places. The search for these flashes of harmony is one of the main reasons for me to keep visiting these forgotten corners of the world.
