Ogden Canyon

Ogden Canyon seen from the Indian Trail in winter. This is one of the major canyons located in the Northern Wasatch Mountains. The west side of the canyon is made of quartzite while the east is made of limestone

how to tolerate temperature extremes!

	Hasn't voted	Thank you. The number of hikers in this canyon is low in summer and even less during winter. I grew up hiking with cheap outdoor gear so that made me tolerate cold weather well. I got a good pair of mountaineering boots now and they make a huge difference. No more frozen feet.

about the two different rocks of the canyon. Seafloor and an uplift?

	Hasn't voted	Yes, you are right about the rocks. They are in a layering sequence that formed at different times the sea level had risen when they were deposited. The rock in Ogden is quite old due to complex uplifting, tilting, folding, and faulting. The Tintic Quartzite is located at the bottom, then a broken layer of Ophir Shale, and some Maxfield Limestone at the top.
