Scary north face of Malý Kežmarský štít (2517 m) is a place of many tragedies. Total of 22 climbers died within this wall. Among them were such Tatras' climbing stars as brothers Pavel and Ondrej Pochylý, who found direttissima and superdirettissima on this wall in 1970s and added first ascent of direttissima on Pilier d'Angle in Mont Blanc massif (white route on the photo) and first winter climb of ideal direttissima in the north wall of Eiger in 1980s. They died here on 25th february 2000. The most contemporary fatal accident happened yesterday, on 22nd february 2008. It was a polish climber who fell 150 meters and deceased in the left part of the wall in massif of Kežmarská kopa (2233 m). The other towers in this photo (in the ridge to the right of the summit of Malý Kežmarský štít): Ušatá veža (2265 m); Ušatá kazateľnica; and Ušatá vežička There are two other towers incorporated in the body of the wall visible in the photo lower than the summit of Malý Kežmarský štít. The left one is Pavúkova veža and the right one is Bocekova veža. Date of the photo: 26th january 2008 May all deceased climbers rest in peace.

Re: really scary

All I have to say about this wall, is that I gave great respect of it, and that it scares me. I hope I will either never enter this wall or come home healthy from it everytime I go there..

Re: too sad ....

You are right. This mountain haven't been exposed here on SP in this way, but it is the truth about the mountain - many sad stories, and plentitude of magnificence at on site ...
