East Ridge of Lovenia [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
East Ridge of Lovenia
View from the beginning of descent from East Lovenia.

Of the three cliff-ringed ridge sections ahead, the first (and the smallest) is easy to bypass on the right (N), and the last (and the largest) is easy to skirt along its South Bench (on the left). The middle "island" is tricky though. Both its Eastern prow and its North escarpment have some must-negotiate class 5 sections. The South side might be a better choice perhaps.

Thanks Tomek! The mountains here are made of nearly-horizontal layers of very old rock, mostly Precambrian quartzite and some shales. So the long bands of red cliffs, separated by eroded benches, are very typical for Uinta Range. The headwalls of the valleys were scored by glaciers, but they all gone extinct.
