Gillespie Point [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Gillespie Point
Gillespie Point is sometimes referred to as the "Matterhorn of the Alleghenies" due to its conical shape. Here Gillespie Point is shown during the beautiful fall month of October on an extraordinary day in Pennsylvania. Nestled at the base of Gillespie Point is the small, quaint village of Blackwell, with a population of less than 100. This photo was taken from a view on PA Rt 414 on a bend in the creek. There actually is no pull over on the road and the road is very narrow at this section, but I was lucky enough to not have a car come along while I was snapping a few photos. Also, the Mid State Trail, a trail extending from Pennsylvania's southern border to its northern border, climbs over the top of this mountain.
