It's a magical place, believe me. In the summer evenings, when the sun goes really low on the horizon, the Rutor basin and the mountains around reflects a type of light I've not seen anywhere else.

And you don't really need to go up the glacier - just drive above La Thuile (near the Pt. Saint Bernard) on the road to the Colle San Carlo, stop the car at the "Prince Thomas fields" and enjoy the atmosphere....

I like your passion! That is what makes me believe that a place is nice. I was only once there, after ascending Gran Paradiso we were driving through La Thuile, but missing to know this place in depth :((

La Thuile Itself ain't that fabulous - it's cold, windy and doesn't sees much light (ok, it's a great place for ski).

But just move few hundred meters around and it's all "wow" and "oooohh". Not only the Rutor/Colmet area but also the Berio Blanc / Chavannes / Orgere sector on the opposite side. Know these places like my pockets, and I'm never tired of them...
