Located at the eastern foot of the Lhagoi Kangri range, Yamdrok Yumtso (also spelled Yamdrok Yutso or Yamdrok Tso) is one of the most revered holy lakes in Tibet.

The circumvallation around the turquoise lake takes one full week and passes trough numerous monasteries located on its shores and islands, the most famous being Samding monastery. Yamdrok Tso has a unique scorpion shape, hence its nickname as “Scorpion Lake”.
