While driving to the Mt. Rainier Visitors' Center on May 3, 2009, this fox stayed quietly along the side of the road allowing me to get several shots.
Though it doesn't fit the standard descriptions, I believe this is either a Red Fox or a mix which includes Red Fox. If you know one way or the other, please let me know.

Voted 10/10 | I spent many years exploring MRNP, and
had never came across a Red Fox.
I believe their "coloration" changes with the
seasons. It must still be wearing half of its
winter's coat.

Hasn't voted | Not a separate species, just a coat color of red fox (c.f. "silver fox").
They look a lot like grey foxes. Easiest way to tell the difference is by the tip of the tail - red/cross/silver foxes have white at the tip of the tail, grey foxes have black. | | Posted May 20, 2009 8:49 am |
