| Nelson decides not to continue down Donner Ridge (July 31, 2004). I had already pretty much come to that conclusion already. Basically the next 10 to 15 feet in front of Nelson have only sketchy handholds and no footholds. If this was the only obstacle we might have decided to try it, but once past this we would only be able to continue another 20 feet to top of the cliff beyond. You can see our immediate objective in the far right--the saddle between this steep part of the ridge and a large gendarme only 40 vertical feet below. So close, but yet so far! |

Hasn't voted | Yeah, real climbers would have pranced across this. We should have stayed just home and taken knitting lessons.
... as Andy mentioned if we knew that would have got us to our saddle we would have gone for it. Our fear was we'd get to the farther cliff and then be in an even worse spot. Coming back in the opposite direction looked even tricker, so we let fear and caution rule the day. | | Posted Aug 2, 2004 8:41 am |

Voted 10/10 | I was just kidding. Letting your instincts take over on this one might have been very wise. | | Posted Aug 2, 2004 12:25 pm |
