Ophrys tenthredinifera. These are orchids which resemble (in appearance and smell) the females of specific insect species. They say that there is an ophrys species for every insect one ;-) May 28th 2004

Voted 10/10 | You are quick. I added a question under my vote but I think I know the answer. I bet orchids have something to do with it. | | Posted Aug 9, 2004 4:02 pm |

Hasn't voted | No you don't! I didn't even know there were orchids on Sardinia. And before I went there I didn't know I loved them so much ;-)
I was so quick because I was still working on the page... | | Posted Aug 9, 2004 4:40 pm |

Voted 10/10 | You captured a rather exotic looking bit of flora. Are these orchids common in Sardinia? Thanks for looking at my columbine by the way.

Hasn't voted | Orchids are common upon the mountain plateaus of Sardinia (at around 3000 - 4000 ft). This particular one seems to be a bit more rare since I only found two specimen. But there were pictures in all of the guidebooks I used, so maybe not THAT rare.
If you are interested in more of the orchids, have a look at the Punta Ferulargiu page I put up last night. The orchid section gives you an indication what you can find there. | | Posted Aug 10, 2004 12:43 am |
