The traverse across the East face high on the north ridge

Hasn't voted | is this really the south face? It almost looks like one of the conness lakes behind you, and the north ridge (north peak pass) up above, which would make this the NE face. If this is the south face, what is that lake below you. btw: this is not a challenge, just trying to get my bearings :-) | | Posted Jun 25, 2002 9:03 pm |

Hasn't voted | My bad...
I got my pics mixed up.
The route is the NORTH ridge, and the traverse is across the northeast face near the summit.
Good eyes. I missed it when I posted it.
Thanks.

Hasn't voted | I think I found a photo from the same viewpoint as wallpirate's photo:

According to the site,
"This particular pitch is a little known and very hidden variation where the climber moves out on the north andsteep side of the crest."
I don't remember seeing it, but judging from the elevation above the lowpoint of the ridge, it is near the summit. At the top of the ridge, you come to a place that looks impassible. We rappeled from down below, then skirted to the right to the summit. But I imagine that if you descend an obvious (wide) chimney, this traverse is on the other side of it. Any better info???

You step through a little window from the west side of the ridge to the east and cross this little ramp across the face.
My buddy showed it to me when we went up- hadn't gone that way before.

Hasn't voted | Thanks, wallpirate. I figured that this was the case. From what I remember, the downclimb into the window didn't look too hard or long. How hard is the climbing on the other end of the traverse?
I mentioned this discussion on the North Ridge route page. I can tell you that the alternative to the traverse -- downclimb/rappel, then traverse the west side of the ridge -- was not as scenic or exciting. | | Posted Mar 13, 2003 1:53 pm |

Hasn't voted | We never roped up except to rap at the second tower, and none of the climbing was difficult in the slightest even in sneakers. It shouldn't be too hard to find- it's literally a window with a all 4 sides closed in, like a tunnel. The climbing on the other side was easy as well. Nothing you'd need to rope up for unless uncomfortable with the exposure. | | Posted Mar 13, 2003 3:01 pm |
