Stinkhorn Fungi - Breidden Forest

Stinkhorn Fungi - Breidden Forest

Many different types of fungi grow within the Breidden Forest. The stinkhorn mushroom is a very common fungi throughout the United Kingdom. It thrives in the leaf mulch of pine needles and conifers. The fungus has a very short life cycle and this one has had the cap exposed into the kind of honeycombe pattern after having all its black slime removed. This black slime is what contains the spores and it has a horrible smell of rotten flesh which attracts flys and insects in turn they transfer the spores.
