Mt. Shasta / West Face Gully....
Mt. Shasta / West Face Gully. The route follows the continuous snow filled gully up Mt. Shasta's West Face to the saddle at the top of the slope. From there, traverse right (east) above the upper reaches of Casaval Ridge to the base of Misery Hill and then on to the summit. Most years this route stays "in" well into the summer, and is a fine alturnative to the often crowded Avalanche Gulch. The only scree one should encounter later in the season is at the narrow section of the gully near the top of the route. Casaval Ridge route on the skyline to the right. Photo taken June, 2001
