Iron Cap Mountain, Elevation 6347
Sept, 1986
An interesting side trip on a week in the Alpine Lakes. A good scramble. Camped near the outlet of Chetwoot Lake. Went east from lake, around the end of a north ridge that is just west of small lake that is NW of mountain. Went past the north edge of lake and up the north side of mountain. It was like giant stairs with three to four foot risers every thirty to forty feet. From the top, we followed the ridge west past point 6077, then dropped back down towards Chetwoot. Saw a ptarmigan family on the way up, and had a jet flyby while we were on the top. The jet came up the valley from the west, banked left right in front of us, and went low down the Foss valley.
Unfortunately, I lost all my pictures of this trip.
