Iron Mountain from Heaton Flat Trail

[ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Iron Mountain from Heaton Flat Trail
Unobstructed view at our destination, Iron Mountain, from the Heaton Flat trail with Allison Gulch below. There is still a lot of ground to cover to reach our goal. The use trail up to the summit follows the ridge to the right. September 20, 2008.

Nice shot... What is the shape of the ridge from 6100'? When I lived in SoCal, the route had 15' high chaparral until above around 6500'. Are things easier after all the fires in the area during the past few years?

It's not bad. After the Heaton Saddle (or Allison Saddle) it's very steep with many Yuccas and Buckthorn but not too much other chaparral. Still a tough hike though. Cheers.
