Is this...

a volcano? Or is it a cinder cone? Vulcan Volcano as seen from the summit of Black Volcano in Petroglyph National Monument. These rare eruptions ooze magma out of thin, horizontal cracks that extend for miles along linear fractures in the Earth's crust (as opposed to erupting from a central vent). I have been fortunate enough to observe similar geology in Hawaii and East Africa. 03.04.10
