It's dry in the Cordillera Negra
Even though it's not even 100km from the Pacific Ocean, the Cordillera Negra does not see a lot of rain. On the lower slopes you'll see some farmers, and there is some livestock, but higher up it's wide open spaces.
This is not far below 4000m, along the road from Huaraz to Callan Punta. Higher up there are no trees anymore.
