Awsome views from the top going north into the backcountry. Spent the night in a bowl on the ridge. It had strong gusts, bring a wind breaker. Had a Grizzly run down the shore line when we were on the shore about 100ft away. Watch out for the "Wild Celery." It has many names, hemlock leafs on celery stocks. The oil causes a bad rash when exposed to the sun!
Route Climbed: JackKnife Mountain Trail Date Climbed: July 27-28, 2005
This mountain was worth effort foot of the difficult climb. The views are so awesome. I stayed up for the sunset, about Midnight, and the view of the Wood River Range is incredible! Views of three or more 10 mile long lakes can be had. As I was on the summit a Golden Eagle did a dive from the summit down to Lake Aleknagik over 2,000 feet below. More wild and beautiful then most lower 48 state peaks.
