Traverse from Dicks  Sucess!

Enjoyed the ridge between the two peaks though I was breaking in a new pair of boots and kept tripping over things. Brief section of Class 3 moves was on solid rock and not at all exposed - very pleasant.

We decided to drop down to the lake at 9200' just NE of the summit and traverse back to the PCT under Dicks Peak. This I would not recommend due to constant crappy loose rock along the traverse, but we did get a nice glissade in, a blessing for late July in California anymore.

Backpack  Sucess!

Day 2. We woke up at Gilmore Lake and leisurely made our way up the PCT to access the ridge to Dicks Peak. We started the 'scramble' up to the summit and quickly noticed multiple groups ascending the ridge. I counted 15 or so people and a dog. To our knowledge, not one of them actually tried to climb Dicks. Not really sure what they were all doing there. We enjoyed lunch on a windless peak before traversing the saddle to Jacks Peak. While doing so thunder started rolling miles to the south around the Mokelumne Wilderness. We had enough time for Jacks, but we stopped the leisurely pace. Forcing class 3 up to Jacks was fun, but once we made the summit we found the highpoint and headed down straight away. Our goal was to make it to the north shore of Aloha, but found an incredible campsite on the south slopes of Jacks near a tarn, so we set up camp. Immediately we were hit with heavy rain, and we jumped into our tents for a 30 minute rest. The rain stopped, the skies cleared, and we enjoyed a very relaxing evening looking down upon Lake Aloha.

Tallac, Dicks & Jacks traverse  Sucess!

Nice hike and great views on E side of Crystal Range with quite a bit of snow still lingering from previous week's storm. Pretty windy but it only made it bearable; very hot when calm.
