Jorge Pacheco
At the highest point on this section of the PCT (you can see the sign in the background) just 100' below the peak of Mt Baden-Powell, I met this rather serious looking trail-runner. I talked to him and discovered that this was none other than Jorge Pacheco of Los Angeles who has won the Angeles Crest 100-mile endurance race three times (2001, 2003, 2004) including a PR of 18:52 (2003). When I discovered who he was, I had to have my picture made with him (me on left; Jorge on right). I've done some tough marathons like the Pikes Peak Marathon, but Jorge runs at a level I can't begin to fathom. He was out on a 40-mile training run across Baden-Powell when I met him. Actually, he had passed me early on the trail on his first loop. He was planning to do another 40-miler tomorrow (back-to-back 40-milers). His wife finished as the 4th female finisher at the 135-mile Badwater Ultramarathon just 2 weeks ago. He was out today training for the 2006 Angeles Crest 100-mile race on September 16.
