Junction Butte

Junction Butte

Junction Butte as viewed under cloudy and cold skies on March 16 2008. I climbed the butte in November 1992 (from Monument Point) and found that it was actually a very interesting climb and so it will be on SP in the near future. Route goes up the center of the face, but is only a class 4 scramble (with a short technical pitch or two) that can be done without a rope.

Best view in North America

I climbed Junction Butte in March 2001. It's a fantastic climb and maybe the best view I've ever had. We did it from Grand View Point, the climb down from which is much hairier/exposed than the climb up/down Junction Butte itself. It can also be done via Murphy Hogback trail (technically much easier, but more distance and vertical) or from the White Rim trail.

Re: Best view in North America

Yes, sounds like the same route we did. I guess I should change the caption to Grandview Point rather than Monument Point, since that is what the newer maps say.

Anyway, I didn't add the page since I didn't think I had enough photos or remembered the route enough (it's been 22 years now), but if you want to add it, it would make a fine addition to SP.
