NelsonHow do you get there from here?

Does the route continue down into the shadow near the bottom of the photo, or go quickly out of sight to the right? How about during the ascent, angling off to the right slightly? Above the small shadow? So many questions. Great photo.

Hello Nelson, good questions,

The difficult scrambling pretty much ends right in the shaded area. From there one has to climb up and over a ten foot tall section of rock, which is not shown but is easier than this section, down into a flat area called the "ships prow". Where I'm standing is on a slab rock a few feet away from the route which is some what visible from here taken by Aaron.

The ascent route angles up to the right for about another fifty feet to a small two to three foot wide ledge that traverses to the left then up to the summit. The Wetterhorn page has quite a few excellent images from different angles capturing this section. The image makes it look much more dramatic than it really is and IMO that’s hard to capture with a camera compared to actually being there. Thanks Nelson, the images you have posted recently are wonderful.

Maybe the photo makes it look worse than it is, but I get that knot of fear in my stomach just looking at that photo! Wow!

Being there is exposed, but not really intimidating....unless you have been tracking a snow squall in from Sneffels and you're pretty sure the descent will be white and slick.
