Katahdin Group from Sentinel Mountain

Katahdin Group from Sentinel Mountain

Sentinel Mountain provides the best view of the major peaks of Baxter Park from the west side. While only 1842' feet high, it has open ledges on top that are great for sitting, picking blueberries and soaking in the view while planning for bigger hikes. The peaks seen in this picture are (from left to right): Moose Bosom (formerly Squaws Bosom), Doubletop, ridge of the Cross Range, OJI West Peak, OJI, Barren Mountain, Hamlin, The Owl, and Katahdin. The small pond in front of Doubletop is Rocky Pond. In the center foreground is Rocky Pond. At bottom right is Lilliy Pad Pond and behind it Daicey Pond is visible. The deep cut between Doubletop and OJI is the Nesowadnehunk Stream Valley. August 13, 2006

A Great American Range

Whenever I see a mountain range, I always compare it to this. I have not been to this summit but usually view the range from somewhat to the east. Thanks for adding.

Re: A Great American Range

Thanks for the comment and for all your votes, Desainme. While this peak is not all that appealing from a mountaineering standpoint, it's a fantastic chance to take a nice walk/paddle and gives a view that is different than from any other angle.
