Voted 10/10 | I have a picture of the same sunset from down in the valley, no comparison. Thanks for sharing | | Posted Jun 10, 2006 2:25 am |
| Tom Kenney | Thanks! | |
Hasn't voted | It was pretty shocking to see in person. I wish I'd caught more of it, but all I had was an old digital camera and about 32Mb worth of chip. | | Posted Jun 14, 2006 3:02 am |

Voted 10/10 | Is this the result of inversion, pollution and fading sunlight? | | Posted Feb 10, 2007 6:29 pm |

The cloud was hovering over the Owens Valley, and these types of cloud are formed by the 'venturi' effect of the airflow being compressed and decompressed over the top of the Sierra Nevada, combined with very cold temps up high. The orange color may be due to pollution to the west (San Joaquin Valley has bad air!). It was just after sunset. | | Posted Feb 13, 2007 5:24 am |

| peninsula | Beautiful | |
Voted 10/10 | Was the wave followed by a change in weather? The last time I photographed a lenticular formation that big, I got stuck in the snowstorm that followed! | | Posted Oct 21, 2011 9:33 am |

Hasn't voted | This was a LONG time ago, so I don't remember for sure. I think the weather just stayed clear and nice. Certainly could have been different further north.
Thanks much for the comment!
